A while ago I wrote an article on the thyroid and weight gain/loss when it is messed up–off balance–misaligned with the planets. Well, recently my doctor who only measures the TSH has been trying to slow me down to a turtle pace of living. I have been on Armour for over 2 yrs and have done OK at the level I was at until I had the dreaded TSH blood test. So–long story short–I now have a new doctor and the sun is starting to shine again. I have a new balance of medication for my tired thyroid and am starting to wake up again!
I just wanted to give another shout to the people to say–if you feel like something is off in your body then find a doctor who will listen to your symptoms and not try to pretend they are something else in hopes to throw you off your instincts. Most people are prescribed anti-depressants when their thyroid labs are returned as “normal”. Normal for one person is NOT normal for another person–TSH is not a good indication of thyroid function when the person is suffering from the symptoms of low thyroid. If your TSH tests come back but you still have these symptoms as described by the Mayo Clinic ask for a secondary hypothyroid test–they draw your blood and look at the levels of actual thyroid hormones available in your blood–Free T3 and Free T4. It is a good idea to have your iron levels checked as well at this time. Rule out anything that may be chemically off before you allow your doctor to tell you that you need some over prescribed mass produced kick back drug like an anti-depressant. Symptoms are real and many people with thyroid disorders do undiagnosed.
On another note–or “now for something completely different” we have a new recipe up on the Squeaky Gourmet blog that is in season and so delicious–actually not very expensive to make either! My kids loved it–I loved it! YOU WILL LOVE IT (or else…) Check it out!
(I know sounds crazy right? Check it out!)
