Every once in a while someone asks me a question via email or facebook or telepathy about how to do an effective workout at home. Do you know what an awesome question that is? Well-it is TOP NOTCH!
So, let me answer you with a long wordy explanation and then just give you a new workout to do, ok?
When we perform resistance training to maintain health vs training to become stronger in a sport, or for body building(growing muskels to be HYOOGE) we don’t have to go crazy with the WEIGHT but we also don’t need to go crazy with the repetitions. Plenty of workout programs you see on Fit TV or on the shelves of the DVD store show us we can use pastel colored dumbbells and lift,tone and separate any muscle on our body if we do 13 sets of 120 reps. Women eat that up! They think if they move 1 pound 4 million times while listening to hip hop they won’t get HYOOGE and they will be “toning”. What a WASTE of time!
All we need to do is assure our body that the muscle tissue we have is an important component to our body so our body won’t allow the muscles to waste away. If you are lifting 1 pound 120 times then you are not really reminding your body anything except you have too much time on your hands and perhaps a greedy trainer. Simple body weight resistance is a fantastic way to begin letting your body not to give up the beef!
Here is a basic routine you can add more intensity to by using weights. It is effective in it’s own right, though. Try it…you may like it
Of course, when you are ready to move on to something a bit heavier-go flip a tire.
